Help

I am pleased that you are interested in our MSW Program. The University of Saint Joseph was founded on the principle of serving those whose needs are not being met within society. Our new MSW program embraces this philosophy and offers an innovative and flexible program with high standards. We are proud to embrace the social work values of social justice and human rights and we are committed to building a stronger society. If you come to USJ to study with us, you will find a community of learners committed to service, academic excellence, integrity, hospitality and diversity.

The overall goal of the USJ MSW program is to prepare students for clinical practice in community-based settings and to disseminate evidence-based practice to advance clinical social work. The advanced curriculum specializations in Health/Mental Health, Veteran’s Services, and Children and Families will prepare research-informed practitioners for the emerging needs of society.

The USJ MSW Program is unique in its design and has been developed to meet students where they are in their life journey. The MSW Program delivers courses in a variety of modes (including hybrid courses that link on-line with traditional classroom experiences on week-ends and evenings) that accommodate the demanding schedules of adult students. We understand that a student’s time is valuable and the program is designed to provide students with outstanding flexibility and support in order to meet their goals.

Another key innovation is the Student Unit field education model where students work under the guidance of a University employed Clinical Preceptor: an adjunct clinical professor specifically assigned to the field unit to provide clinical supervision. This approach to field education will provide students with consistent and high quality clinical teaching where classroom and field based learning are thoroughly integrated.

In closing, we are excited to offer this program with the enthusiastic support from our Senior Administrative team at USJ. For more than eighty years, our BSW program has produced social workers who have made significant contributions in our society. With the launch of our new MSW Program, the University of Saint Joseph is moving ahead in a new era of professional training and responsiveness to the needs of our communities.

We look forward to hearing from you and welcome your interest.
